Mocana Named One of the "Top 100 Tech Startups in the World" by Red Herring
Only Second Time in History That Award Has Been Given, Winners Hand-Selected From More Than 1,200 Finalists From Europe, Asia and North America.
SAN FRANCISCO, CA - Mocana, a software company that delivers comprehensive security solutions for connected and embedded devices, today announced that it has been selected by Red Herring as one of their "Global 100": the top 100 privately-held technology companies in the world. High-profile alumni of Red Herring's "North American 100" (of which Mocana was also a winner) include then-startups Google, eBay and Skype.
Red Herring's editorial staff and industry experts surveyed the entrepreneurial scene throughout Europe, Asia and North America and from more than 1,800 candidates, selected the top 100 companies that are leading the next wave of innovation. Companies were chosen based on quantitative and qualitative criteria such as financial data, quality of management, execution of strategy and dedication to research and development.
"Red Herring selected Mocana because of their unique focus on the holistic security of connected devices: consumer, enterprise and industrial," said Alex Vieux, Red Herring's Publisher. "According to Nokia Research, connected devices already outnumber PCs on the Internet by about five to one, and that ratio is growing fast. That means Mocana's technology is in the right place at the right time."
Generally, workstations are somewhat secured, but IP-addressable devices -- which greatly outnumber PCs on the network -- are not. This diverse ecosystem of consumer, enterprise and industrial connected devices -- from cell phones to printers, from routers to environmental controls and industrial automation systems -- represents a growing and comparatively "soft" target to today's sophisticated hackers and autonomous, polymorphic malware. Solutions from Mocana's Device Security Framework(TM) enable device manufacturers and enterprises to secure connected devices and embedded systems of all kinds with a single, holistic approach.
"Connectivity is outpacing security, and hackers are getting more successful, not less, in gaining unauthorized access to valuable data. All those unsecured printers, music players and industrial controls are now the easiest way in," said Adrian Turner, CEO of Mocana. "We're enormously grateful and proud to be recognized by Red Herring's global team, and only hope that our work can emulate the tremendous and disruptive impacts of this award's distinguished alumni."
The 100 winning companies were announced Friday, January 16th, 2009 at the Red Herring Global Conference in San Diego, California.
